24 Hours on Rittenhouse Square…
Celebrating 60 at Hotel Palomar, Parc and Little Pete’s
David’s birthday was back in February. We usually celebrate by getting a nice hotel room on Rittenhouse Square or in NYC. But, because it was David’s big 60th, we thought it would be fun to celebrate this year with a birthday bash. David has so many friends, our only regret was that we couldn’t invite more people to the party.
You may have seen some of the birthday fun on Facebook. Incase you missed hit, here is one of the highlights of the night. For David’s 60th birthday, I surprised him by singing our song, “Darling Be Home Soon” by the Lovin’ Spoonful. Thanks to Steve Butler, Fran Smith, Jr., Eric Bazilian and Wally Smith for helping me to pull this off!
After the party, we decided that we wanted to celebrate David’s 60th in our traditional birthday fashion. So, we scheduled a overnight stay on Rittenhouse Square. We chose one of our favorite places, Kimpton’s Hotel Palomar.
Another favorite of David’s is Parc.
The fresh baked bread is amazing! And the burgers, man oh man. But this time, David opted for EGGS NORWEGIAN with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce. I went for CHICKEN PAILLARD.
After brunch the staff surprised David with a birthday treat!
The view was great, too!
Even on a chilly spring day, the park looked so inviting. We took a stroll and a seat and watched the people as they passed by…
After all of that eating and people watching, we headed back to the Hotel Palomar for a little siesta. The hotel is in the historic Architects Building designed by Paul Philippe Cret, and is LEED Gold Certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). It basically means that it’s a green hotel. Which we love.
Every evening from 5:00 – 6:00pm, they host a wine hour in the living room. They had some tasty popcorn, too! Complimentary morning coffee and tea service is also offered from 7:00 – 9:00am. Nice touch!
Our room was beautiful! The view from the bathtub was spectacular, and the spa tub was… A lot of fun 😉
We were surprised by a birthday treat of a nice bottle of red, chocolate mousse and more of that tasty popcorn. But, that would have to wait until after dinner.
As 7:00pm approached, we headed over to another one of David’s favorite places,
Stephen Starr’s The Dandelion.
We were seated at a lovely table in the cozy corner of the room.
We started dinner with more of that house baked bread and a Caesar Salad.
I chose the TANDOORI CHICKEN with coconut basmati rice, cucumber and cilantro yogurt. David went comfort food with LAMB SHEPHERD’S PIE with mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese and root vegetables.
After dinner, we strolled back to the hotel and enjoyed the lobby “living room” for a bit, before heading back up to the room.
The hotel stocks leopard and zebra bathrobes and yoga mats in the closet! They even offer complimentary bicycles (but, they are in the lobby 🙂
And look at that view from the spa tub. What a treat, and what a wonderful night!
We woke up to delicious hot coffee in the lobby and then headed out for a stroll through The Square…
…And over to Little Pete’s for the best breakfast in town!
After breakfast we walked up 17th street hand in hand. How lucky we are to have each other and to make these special memories!
See you next time from New York City!!!
LOVE,
Dallyn & David xoxo
